Inaugurated on 4 November 1737, on the occasion of king Charles of Bourbon’s name-day, and built by the architects Giovanni Antonio Medrano and Angelo Carasale, the project included a 28 m long and 22m wide room with 18 stages set on six levels and a Royal stage, for a total of 1379 seats. The theatre has recently had important restoration works: a new foyer has been built under the room, which has been equipped with a modern and efficient air-conditioning system.
